Very few people in the Caribbean are automatically known by their first name. Trinidad born, Meiling, is the tour de force behind the label which carries her name. Seen as the premiere designer of the Caribbean, she has been on the Caribbean fashion landscape for over 40 years. Her country has honoured her with many awards, including the Chaconia Silver medal for meritorious service to the business sector. She has also worked in costume design alongside Emmy Award winning designer Peter Minshall on his Carnival productions and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Meiling also sits on the Board of Directors for the CommonWealth Fashion Council.
