A CLUB NAMED RHONDA
OFFICIAL SELECTION
DIRECTOR: Greg Ferro
COUNTRY: United States
"The only rule we follow is: do not judge. Whoever you are, welcome to the Club." A Club Called Rhonda is an exploration of the cultural phenomenon that hit LA in 2008 with the opening of the eponymous club. It’s an insight into the free and inclusive spirit of a unique environment, in which the social norms imposed on our daily lives no longer apply. The message behind the film is as inspirational as aspirational. Rhonda is a lifestyle open to anyone brave enough to be themselves, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. It’s an invitation to break away from the limits pre-established by society and to question how we look at family, roles and social structures. Ironic, playful and provocative, A Club Called Rhonda is a window onto a universe of uncontaminated self-expression where everyone is welcome. #CANIFFF2020 -

AGE IS JUST A NUMBER
NOMINATED FOR BEST SOCIAL MESSAGE
DIRECTOR: Henrik Steen
COUNTRY: Denmark
Everyone talks about age being just a number, but how many in the fashion industry really mean what they say when Media messages such as: look young but not too young - dress according to your age, do not reveal. Suddenly buying a pair of funky jeans or wearing a sparkling sequin blouse feels like an act of high treason - risky and punishable by the fashion police. How are you when you are 20 or 50 years old, young people have tattoos, while older people do not? Do you wear a sequin dress to job when you are 20 years old but not when you are 50 years old? With the campaign we want to show that age and fashion do not have to be connected, we want to create a universe where you are not a mother, father and children, but could just as well be a group from an agency that was on its way to studio 54. You might as well be young, focused and serious with a tight fashion look, as you can be 50 years old and want to be funky as you just woke up after a hard night at a club, and are ready for a day at work. With the campaign, we want to show that there is no "age police" trying to push you into a box where you do not belong, and that it is more about look and attitude than it is about age. In the film, the models are from 20 years and up to 65 years. One person is a model, one is a student, one is a creative director and then a person is a stylist and trendy model - you can guess who is who, because age is only a number, style is a statement and state of mind. #CANIFFF2020 -
ALEX
NOMINATED FOR BEST: SOCIAL MESSAGE, DANCE
DIRECTOR: Alex Spreafico
COUNTRY: Italy
“I’m scared and feel wrapped in the dark. I’m vulnerable.” Taking on a more narrative approach to fashion film while staying true to the genre’s strong focus on aesthetics, Alex tells us about a woman reliving and working through a trauma. The film looks at the concept of abandonment during childhood as something that we are likely to take with us into our adult life. Employing a dreamlike scenario, Alex takes on an experimental, movement-led approach as the lead character dives deeply into her subconscious. #CANIFFF2020 -
